specialises in "something different", a collection of
tasteful gifts, bath products, handbags and jewellery with women in mind
(although there is also a range of products for men!). The emphasis of
the range is on simplicity of design, using natural materials wherever
possible and featuring work from local as well as international
designers.
"I wanted to create a collection that would not only be suitable for
gifts for giving, but also for treating yourself", said Amanda. "I have
travelled around the UK and Europe looking for items that would fit into
the range and I have been delighted with what I have found".
"My jewellery is mainly based on silver and features designers from
Devon and Cornwall, as well as from local Cotswold artists. The creator
of one of the ranges originally came from Russia and she draws upon
styles and motifs from her homeland in her designs!".
The handbags are a particular favourite of Amanda's – she believes
that a woman can never have enough! - and there is a wide choice at
Aquileia. There are bags suitable for both day and evening, with some of
the day bags being produced in original designs by craftsmen and women
across the UK, Europe and Kenya. "We only buy from Fairtrade sources",
explained Amanda, "so that we can ensure that maximum return goes back to
the crafts people themselves. The glamorous silk velvet evening bags
come from closer to home, from Rose Black in Hampshire!"
Aquileia's bath products are all hand produced and only use natural
ingredients. There are ranges from a number of small producers such
as Rustic Spa, Lyme Wash, NaturaLeigh, Jean Barry and Heyland &
Whittle. "Our assortment of bath products is huge" says Amanda. "We
start with modestly priced bath bombs, salts and creamers and go
right up to gorgeous gift boxes featuring soaps infused with rose
petals."
As well as a wide range of artistic and humorous greeting cards,
Aquileia also stocks a number of ranges of candles and other gift
items. The candles come from Switzerland, Belgium and Scotland; a
great favourite will no doubt be a set of seven small candles called
"The 7 Deadly Scents" from designers Pelling Sharman.
"I have tried very had to bring together a range of gifts that have
not been seen before in Cirencester" says Amanda, "and I hope that
people will find something different, but also to their taste in
Aquileia!"
